Homemade Flea Repellent Dog Treats

This is probably one of my favorite homemade dog treat recipes, for a few reasons:

1) I already had almost every ingredient in my pantry

2) I was able to tweak the recipe and add a few more of my pups favorites

3) It repels fleas!  Which is reason enough, amirite?

Follow me step-by-step and learn how I make my pups these delicious > easy > flea repellent > peanut butter > banana > homemade DOG treats!

I suppose to start off you’ll need to know the INGREDIENTS right?
(for the record- any brand will suffice)

  • Peanut Butter
  • 2-3 Bananas
  • Dried Oats
  • Coconut Oil

·       Brewers Yeast– Powder form is best> This is what will repel the fleas> Sometimes you can find them in pill form at Walmart, if not you can definitely find them at Petsmart, but it may cost a little more. > I linked in the brand I bought online which was the best deal I found for the amount.

·       Silicone Molds– I wanted to be a little fancy so I ordered doggy-appropriate silicone molds, which I linked in. > If you’re not feeling so fancy seriously just use an old ice cube tray. > OR if you’re fancier than I and your freezer makes it’s own ice so you don’t have an ice cube tray, you can just dollop the treats on some parchment paper.

Step 1.  I should start out by saying, I “eye-ball” everything. I just don’t have the kind of time on my hands where I can wash 10 measuring cups a day- I just don’t.
Buuut for conversation sake, let’s just go ahead and add about 3 cups of PEANUT BUTTER to a large mixing bowl.

Step 2. Add your B-A-N-A-N-A’S (cue that one Gwen Stefani song)

Step 3.  Add about a cup of DRIED OATS

Step 4.  Add about a tablespoon of BREWERS YEAST (That looks like a tablespoon, right?)

Step 5. Add COCONUT OIL (I’ve read that you should give your dog one teaspoon of coconut oil per 10 pounds of your dog- but honestly I just scooped)

Step 6. Mix WELL (I’ve decided this qualifies as an arm-day)

Step 7. The FILL- Go ahead and place a zip-lock bag inside two average drinking glasses  (If you’re more of a scoop-directly-into-the-mold kind of person- have at it!)

Step 8. Fill the zip-locks with your dog treat mix

Step 9. Zip-up your zip-lock (lol) and cut a small hole out of one corner

Step 10. FILL your molds (ice cube trays, parchment paper, etc)

Step 11. Almost ready! FREEZE for 45 mins-1 hr

Step 12. Have your dog(s) enjoy a cool > healthy > flea repellent > tasty (I’m assuming) > homemade treat!
